Japan's U-23 soccer squad secures Paris Olympics berth

Japan's Under-23 soccer squad has secured a spot in the Paris Olympics with a 2-0 win over Iraq in the semi-final of the final Asian qualifiers.

Japan took the early lead in the match played on Monday in Qatar. In the 28th minute, striker Hosoya Mao took a long pass and skillfully converted for the first goal.

Japan's second goal came in the 42nd minute when Araki Ryotaro found the net after a series of quick, short passes.

Goalkeeper Kokubo Leo Brian's brilliant saves kept the Iraqi side at bay, and Japan won the match without conceding a goal.

Japan secured an Olympic berth as the top three teams in the tournament automatically qualify.

The Paris Games will be the eighth consecutive Olympics for Japan's men's squad since the 1996 Atlanta Games.
